Who was Robert E. Lamberton?

Robert Eneas Lamberton had been a Judge before becoming the Mayor of the City of Philadelphia.  Born September 14th, 1886 in South Bethlehem, PA, served as Mayor from January 1st, 1940 - August 22nd, 1941.   He died in office at age 54.

Son of William Alexander Lamberton and Mary (McCurdy) Lamberton.  Married Helen Wight Henderson on his 25th birthday.  Helen was two years younger.  They lived in Philadelphia, and had five children: Robert Eneas Jr. (1914), William Alexander (1915), Laura Mary (1915), John Porter and Hugh Sterling.  Known Grandson, Hugh S. Lamberton.

Lamberton became Mayor after winning with 398,384 votes - beating Robert C.White (democrat) 361,143.   Had White gotten 20 thousand more votes, we might have gone to Robert C. White School...

Today, Robert E. Lamberton is the only K-12 Philadelphia public school.
